What the Microsoft 365 storage cut actually means

Microsoft is changing how storage works on Microsoft 365 Family and Premium. New and upgraded subscriptions get a shared 2 TB pool instead of up to 1 TB per person. Existing subscribers keep the old model until their first renewal on or after 2 May 2027, with notice first. Always re-check Microsoft Support for the live policy.

Decide in three numbers

  • Current family OneDrive usage (GB)
  • Whether you renew before or after 2 May 2027
  • Whether you prefer more cloud (paid add-on / other vendor) or local SSD
