Family photo backup checklist

One careful copy beats a rushed delete. Use this before you shrink or leave cloud storage.

Steps

Plug in the SSD; confirm Windows/Mac mounts it and name the volume (e.g. FAMILY-BACKUP)
Create folders by year or person—keep the structure boring and searchable
Copy (do not move) from OneDrive / phone first
Spot-check a few large videos open correctly from the SSD
Optionally make a second copy later (another drive or cloud competitor)
Only then free cloud space, and keep recycle-bin recovery available for a week
